Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Its been an eventful year, with our ‘O’ levels. But that is now the past! A new time dawns upon us! On the 27th of December, I went for a BBQ at East Coast Park with the NPCC group. It was a successful BBQ as the food was cooked nicely. Benson was the one cooking the chicken wings and Elton cooked the sausages. We got the fire going quickly and strongly. Although sudden downpour came 3 times, the wet-weather-plan was a success. Using a poncho and some twine, a shelter for the BBQ pit was erected. Since not all of us had ponchos’, those who weren’t cooking went to the shelter a few steps away. In that shelter, we waited for the food and played cards and music. The rain wasn’t really that strong most of the time, which what the ‘cooks’ were thankful for. After most of the food was cooked, the cooks themselves had a feast. It was a load of food, and it was good. Benson, Gilbert, and Soon Heng bought cans of beer to drink. Well, I don’t know what’s so nice about drinking beer but to them, it seemed like fun. They enjoyed it too. Later, when I was clearing up the BBQ pit area, I finished clearing everything except for the BBQ pit which was still blazing hot. 2 water bottles were emptied into the pit but the charcoal still wouldn’t cool down much. We then had an idea. The styrofoam box containing drinks were emptied of everything except for the ice(one big block) and ice water. Benson removed the ice first and then dumped the one-eight full box of ice water onto the charcoal. Steam was everywhere and still the charcoal wouldn’t stop sizzling. But at least it had cooled down. The big block of ice was then placed onto the pit to try to cool the pit down one last time. At that time, the time for the night cycle was here. So, we tried to cool it down some more by placing smaller pieces of ice on it.
The night cycle was somewhat, tiring and at the same time fun. The trip out of East Coast and back had its ups and downs, literally. There were uphill slopes that we had to climb at the beginning of the ride and if we didn’t gain enough speed at the start, it wouldn’t be enough to carry us up to the peak. On the first slope I did manage to gain enough speed to carry on, but I was blocked off by Elton, so I just got off and pushed my bike onwards. My legs just melted when I tried to stand upright. The downhill slopes back to the park we frighteningly and excitingly fast.
When we returned, we went to Macdonalds first. Benson, Gilbert and Yik Jiun still wanted to watch the sunrise, but the others were too tired and I was too hungry. So the 3 of them cycled to Changi while we played cards again. I had a Fillet-O-Fish meal first because my stomach was growling like a tiger. Turns out, they didn’t really see the sunrise, just a couple of planes. Haha. At 8am we went to return our bikes at the bike shop. The bike uncle was late. Beside the bike shop was a bar where a fight was taking place. I didn’t really see much, but my Elton said he saw someone smash another’s head with a jug. Ouch. The police came 10 minutes later. And then there was the joke made by Elton about television’s drama cops where they come to the scene of the crime in 5 minutes flat instead. We had been conned by TCS and Mediacorp for the past 16 years. Haha. After all that, it was already around 9am which was when the bike uncle came. We bade goodbye to each other and headed home.
